Barra
Welcome to a free demo of Barra, an experimental music maker. This tool allows you to create, share. and add on to melodies using chain reactions of marbles.
Tinker, remix, and see what you can build!
Getting Started:
In Barra, each triggered marble triggers the ones around it, kinda like dominoes.
Try placing a few marbles touching the starter marble, then hit Space to see what happens!
Starters & Recording:
You can start a sequence by either:
-
Clicking a marble
-
Or marking it as a Starter.
To make a starter, hover over a marble and press E. You'll notice it start to pulse and subtly change colors.
Starters are the first to trigger when you hit Space.
When you play a sequence using starters (by pressing space), it's automatically recorded.
After recording, you can hit enter to group your sequence into a single marble.
Drag this grouped marble to the top-right corner of the screen to save it to your Shelf.
The shelf helps you access stored marbles, even across different sessions. It also allows you to upload up to 3 marbles an hour to the global shelf.
Pro Mode:
Pro Mode unlocks more marble pitches and two new marbles, pitch and tempo.
- Tempo marbles just set the tempo to the number they display.
- Pitch marbles change the pitch based on the arrow's direction. When pointing directly to the right, they have no effect on pitch. You can rotate one to face your mouse by holding "r" while hovering over it.
Marble Palette:
Hold keys 1–9 while placing a marble to create specific types.
Full Release:
Coming soon! (Sometime this year, hopefully...)
The full release will have a pretty cool alternate sequencer mode that I'm reaaallllyyyy looking forward to, a better UI (so you don't have to memorize so many keybinds), and lots more! Stay tuned!
Have fun! And let me know in the comments if you have any suggestions for the full release! :D
